Two kinds of support

Psychologist or counsellor: which suits you?

The Symphony Clinic is an online psychology and counselling clinic, based in Lalor, Victoria. We see adults, couples and families across Australia.

The main difference is the kind of support each one offers.

See a psychologist

A registered psychologist offers structured therapy and adult ADHD assessments.

See a counsellor

A qualified counsellor gives you time to talk through what's happening now.

Still deciding?

Call us on 1300 704 901 and we'll talk it through with you.

How it works

How online sessions work

It helps to know what to expect. Here's how it works, in four steps.

  1. Reach out

Book online, answer a few questions, or call us on 1300 704 901.

  2. Tell us a little

Fill in a short form so your clinician can prepare. A few lines is enough. It's handled in line with our Privacy Policy.

  3. Talk by video or phone

Join a private video call, or take a phone call if that feels easier.

  4. Take the next step together

At the end of your first session, you and your clinician talk about what might help. You decide how often to meet.

Good to know

  • You don't need a GP referral to book.
  • You can change your time if something comes up.
  • Your session link arrives by email.
  • All you need is a phone or computer.

Questions

Questions before you book

What people often ask before reaching out.

Can't see your question? Call us on 1300 704 901 or send us a message.

See all FAQs

You may be able to. You'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your usual GP, and you'll need to meet Medicare's rules. Then you can claim a rebate on up to 10 psychology sessions a calendar year. You don't need a plan to book. Without one, you pay the full fee. See our fees and Medicare rebates.

Your clinician will ask what's brought you here and what you'd like to work on. There are no right or wrong answers. You can ask questions too, about how they work or what to expect.

Your sessions are confidential. We store your records in line with the Privacy Act and our Privacy Policy. There are a few legal limits. These include a serious risk to someone's safety, a court order, or a legal duty to report. Your clinician will explain these in your first session.

It helps to join from somewhere you won't be overheard. If that's hard to find, tell your clinician.

Let us know. We can talk with you about other clinicians. You can ask at any time.

Please let us know as early as you can. Our cancellation terms are shown when you book.

We support adults, couples and families. Individual sessions are for adults 18 and over. If you're looking for support that involves anyone under 18, please ask us first.

Telehealth isn't right for every situation. Your clinician may suggest in-person care, a GP review, a referral to another practitioner, further assessment or urgent support. If so, they'll tell you and help you work out where to go next.

We're not a crisis service, and we can't respond to urgent requests through this website. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000. For confidential support at any hour, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. All the services we would point you to are listed under urgent support.
